KSU Alumni Association Louisville Chapter History
In 1935, 8 graduates of Kentucky State University established the Louisville Chapter of KSU National Alumni Association. Since that time the chapter has continued to grow celebrating the rich history of our alma mater and the alumnae who have gone on to successful careers and made significant contributions to our community.
One of the chapter's long standing programs is the annual Christmas brunch. During the 1970s the chapter began an annual tradition of hosting a Christmas Champagne Brunch to celebrate the legacy of Kentucky State during the holidays. Robert and Lucy Phillips were enthusiastic supporters of the event, often selling more tickets than other members of the chapter. In recognition of Lucy and Robert's dedicated support, the chapter voted by resolution to rename the event The Lucy and Robert Phillips Holiday Brunch. The annual event but raises scholarship dollars for future Thoroughbreds. The Louisville Chapter has led in many firsts, which includes: serving as the site of the First Summer Weekend, philanthropic contributors to the Alumni House on Campus, sponsoring the KSU Concert Choir, coordinating and guiding campus tours for high school students, participating in the Circle City Classic football games and events, the annual membership picnic, the Derby Scholarship Gala, and other community service activities. In 1985, our chapter celebrated 50 years of fellowship, service and support of our beloved KSU. A. Frazier Curry, the then current chapter president stated, "Because of the enthusiasm the members of our chapter have maintained since 1935, I have no doubt we will continue to grow and celebrate our 100th Anniversary in 2035 led by current members and future KSU graduates in this city."
